JD Sporting is a Central New York–based firearm training company led by a veteran law-enforcement professional with 40+ years of active duty and training experience. Our team includes DCJS-certified firearms instructors as well as NRA pistol instructors (Basic & CCW), so you learn from people who have taught at the academy level, served as department heads, and competed as shooters. We specialize in the NYS 18-hour pistol (handgun) safety class required for New York State permit applicants. Our 18-hour sessions combine classroom instruction on New York law, use-of-force basics, and safe storage with hands-on live-fire drills that build front-sight fundamentals, trigger control, and situational awareness. Every course is structured to prepare students for permit interviews and real-world responsibility — covering legal compliance, safe handling, and decision-making under stress.
JD Sporting works closely with local gun clubs and ranges across Central NY to provide safe, regulated training environments and access to quality ranges for live-fire practice. Our lead instructor continues to train law-enforcement officers and agency personnel, keeping techniques current and practical. Alongside him are expert instructors well versed in 2A law and defensive fundamentals, so students get up-to-date legal context as well as tactical proficiency.
